"As born in the year 1922 the
20th century of course was the time of my life. Anything beyond then I
regard
as a gift and as a basis to fulfil my lifelong curiosity for another
few years.
My memories date back to my parent´s
hous in Munic´s
Schwabing
district. On evening the street lights were lighted by a gas man. In
summer
when it was quite hot the streets were watered
by harnessed splashing carts in the evening and cars were regarded as a
sensation from
us kids only to be beaten by the overflying
zeppelin which
we were allowed to
admire from the top of our school house. After school came the music
studies at
the Academie of Vocal
Art in
Munic with the main subject clarinet. The
fascination
towards Swing appeared soon and was not blocked although the studies
were completely
oriented on the classic way. The
war
brutally ended
the beautiful
time of
maturing to man.
But music helped to
survive.
The „Amis“
during the occupation
era were for us young
musicians the first listeners capable of
enthusiasm,
which always were
amazed that young Germans,
despite the Nazi
era,
played their
music that perfect.
For
us [it was] the ideal entry into the job. 1949
Foundation of
the Max Greger Band, which I belonged to
for 5 years. 1955
the start
of
my
own orchestra.
Radio, film, records and finally the
television, all that served to the rise of a
certain
popularity at the area of dance music.
This way of profession was
accompanied by an incredible technical development in all areas. From the gas lights to the laser beam. From
gramophone to the super stereo system. From
the
two-stroke-engine over the jet aircraft to the landing on the moon.
But
man didn´t keep pace, he is the uncalculable
beeing on our earth and will never
experience total peace .....although he is
the greatest wonder!
My
curiosity remains,
but disappointment
will still
overshadow it
in
the 3rd millennium!"
